The reporting began in Chelsea in 1977.
Born in Marblehead in 1950, Joshua Resnek moved to Chelsea and began reporting for the Chelsea Record. His relationship with Arnie Jarmak grew into a four-volume project shaped by firsthand observation and narrative drive.

The camera stayed close to the life of the city.
Jarmak’s black-and-white images preserve Chelsea’s faces, streets and civic life. They are the documentary counterpart to the narrative: evidence, atmosphere and memory.
